The maximum individual grant amount is $5000; *new* $7500 for applications involving two or more alumni applying for a shared activity. II. Generation Study Abroad Teacher Initiative

You are invited to join the new IIE Generation Study Abroad initiative for K-12 teachers. Generation Study AbroadTM is a five-year initiative of the Institute of International Education to double the number of U.S. college students studying abroad by the end of the decade. Our aim is to encourage meaningful, innovative action to drive up the number of U.S. students who have the opportunity to gain international experience through academic study abroad programs, internships, service learning and non-credit educational experiences. IIE has built the Generation Study Abroad coalition to raise awareness of the need for students to gain language and cultural skills, identify and break down barriers, share innovative strategies, and mobilize additional financial resources. The teacher campaign is the next phase, recognizing the key role that teachers play in bringing the world into their classrooms and inspiring their students. You are invited to join the pledge to increase students’ awareness and desire to take part in international experiences. By pledging you will have access to the GSA network and resources and other benefits. IIE will launch the Teacher Campaign on February 5th so join today!

III. Share Your Story and Updates

We are keenly interested in hearing from you about what you have been up to since the end of their Fulbright Program. Please share with us any updates (e.g., local/regional/national program-related presentations, ways that you have internationalized your curriculum, new leadership opportunities you may have take part in within or outside of school, collaborations with other DA or CTE alumni or other educators in the U.S. or abroad, etc.). We’d love to hear your stories and how the Fulbright Program has affected you!

IV. Global Opportunities for Teachers Newsletter: A Resource for Teachers

IIE distributes a monthly e-newsletter in order to help teachers and educational professionals learn about programs, professional development and other resources offered by IIE and other educational organizations of interest to educators. We encourage you to view past issues and to sign up to receive this newsletter by visiting the Global Opportunities for Teachers site.

V. Professional Development Opportunity for DA & CTE Alumni

Starting this year, current U.S. and international participants in the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program take part in an online collaborative forum/Professional Learning Community to discuss their program learning, share resources, and to network. The U.S. Department of State and IIE would like to develop this online forum into a resource for all past and present participants. As a starting point, we would like to offer webinars or other types of offerings as part of the site and we would like you to propose topics that you would present by yourself or with other alumni during the late February-June 2015 timeframe. Please think about this now; IIE will send out a follow-up email soon about how to submit your ideas. A modest honorarium will be provided to alumni whose ideas are selected.

VI. Spring and Summer Means Conference Season!

Are you attending a professional conference this summer? The Fulbright Teacher team wants to know! Please email fulbrightdat@iie.org and we can provide you with materials to help promote the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program. Are you giving a presentation? We can provide you with an alumni PowerPoint template to use for your presentation.

Thank you for your continued interest in global education. Please reach out to fulbrightdat@iie.org with any questions or updates.

All the best,
