Transformative Reinscriptions: Traumatic Memories and Testimony in Chile

  • Project Proposal

This project will comprise the fieldwork for my dissertation which entails a comparative narratological analysis of testimonial literature surrounding the dictatorships of Augusto Pinochet in Chile and Francisco Franco in Spain. The focus is on gendered socio-economic, historical, and political narratives of women political prisoners, using resources in archives in Santiago, Chile with support from faculty at the Universidad de Chile.

I will engage with students and faculty in my field and offer seminars in the department of my affiliated university. With my background in TESOL, I will also establish a «conversation partner» program at the U. of Chile to create an intercultural learning community with students. I will also become actively engaged in community service through the local church that I will attend.

After completing the Fulbright Fellowship, I will return to the University of Notre Dame where I will complete and defend my Ph.D. dissertation. I will also publish my dissertation as a book. After graduating, I will earn a position as a professor in my field. I am passionate about teaching and my research and I will continue both of these passions in a professional capacity while maintaining my scholarly engagement with Chile.
