Archiving Chilean History with Numerous Institutions and Networking

  • Project Proposal

This project will comprise of archival research in a number of archives (Biblioteca Nacional, Archivo FECH, Archivo Central Andrés Bello, Archivo Nacional de la Administración, Fundación Salvador Allende, Casa Museo Frei Montalva, Fundación Jaime Guzmán, Archivo Patrimonial USACH, Archivo FASIC, are just some examples).  Through this, I will organize 15-20 oral histories and network with local historians and archivists.  Attending and presenting at historical conferences will help me connect to others with similar interests.

    Final Report

The Fulbright program allowed me to not only complete my dissertation research, it also provided an opportunity to build a professional network with the Chilean academic community. I was able to complete working in a total of 10 archives while in Chile. In addition to this necessary archival work, I met and interviewed around 15-20 (still in progress at the time of writing) former university student leaders. Their interviews will add depth to the archival material I possess.

Furthermore, my time in Chile made my career objectives much clearer. I intend to seek work as a tenure-track professor or working in government upon completion of my degree. Lastly, the Fulbright allowed me the opportunity to create what feels like a home away from home, with a wide swath of Chilean and ex-pat friends who feel like family. Chile now feels more a part of me, not just a place I study.
