Mapuche Landscapes and Poetics

  • Project Proposal:

I will study the intersection of the environment and Mapuche poetry, particularly study how Mapuche poets use language to negotiate landscapes in flux–including the physical landscapes of their homelands, alongside the figurative landscapes of identity, resistance, and language. I will spend the first semester, at the University of Concepción, taking classes in Mapuche poetry. In the second semester, I will conduct 10 interviews with poets, scientists, and environmental activists.
